The United States is not a Democracy

constitutional republic

“A constitutional republic is a state where the head of state and other officials are elected as representatives of the people, and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government’s power over citizens. In a constitutional republic, executive, legislative, and judicial powers are separated into distinct branches and the will of the majority of the population is tempered by protections for individual rights so that no individual or group has absolute power. The fact that a constitution exists that limits the government’s power makes the state constitutional. That the head(s) of state and other officials are chosen by election, rather than inheriting their positions, and that their decisions are subject to judicial review makes a state republican. Most notable example of a constitutional republic: The United States of America.”

The recent political climate in the US in now putting a spotlight on our government. When both parties seem to be ignoring the votes of the individual and pretty much deciding on the highest office in the land it seems incongruous¬†but this has been the government for most of our lifetimes. A lot of us seem to be in shock that we do not live in a strict democracy. The problem is that the republic is now been highjacked by money and power. The country is much larger and far more complicated than when our constitution was written. Our electoral system is antiquated and backwards. It seems really odd to other countries when we tout our Democracy and how they should have the same. Shouldn’t we look into how this system can be improved? Perhaps we can bring it up to the internet age. Most of us live in the internet world in the US and it can be made publicly available. Monies now allocated to the Republican and Democratic party could be reallocated to updating the system and make it fairer and more representative of the country.

We should also have a system where candidates upload their credentials regardless of party and the populace votes on who they want to represent them. This would stop a lot of the party bickering that does nothing but undermine our government. The caliber of the individual has now gone from statesman to people that are looking for a golden parachute and power. Where is the love of country?

I think we all need to look long and hard at our attitudes towards our government and leaders. As long as people do not involve themselves in their own representatives they will get the government they deserve. You can’t put the wolf in with the chickens and not expect to be eaten.

Instead of attacking the individual candidates with personal attacks I think it would benefit us to look into the system that created them.

Courage in admiration of a friend

courage brave lion

Just read a blog post from Allylakeside. https://ally1lakeside.wordpress.com/2014/11/26/my-story-mine-to-tell/

She is my friend but I had no idea the hell she had been through before I knew her. She survived and is a fighter today. Many times she has gotten attacked for standing up for others yet doesn’t let that slow her down one iota. Along with her difficult past she has physical issues that she fights every day. She does this with a deliciously wicked sense of humor.

Many women that are in similar situations dry up and blow away. Not my friend. She stands up and roars like a lion. From a shy abused girl to a young woman denigrated and made to feel less than a person she rose like a phoenix. I am in awe.

I hope that this post is shared far and wide as it will show those that are in similar circumstances there is hope and to get out from under these abusive situations.

We never know what is going on behind closed doors. Those people that seem so together so calm and kind can be monsters in private. Be aware of others. If you see a young woman that looks beaten down and afraid please speak out. You might save a life.

Psychopaths, narcissists and sociopaths do not change. EVER. They need to denigrate others to feel alive and in control. They don’t stop with just being mildly abusive. When they see that they can control and manipulate people they push and push. Further and further down until there is little left of the original person.

They are geniuses at seeking out damaged, needy souls too. They isolate them until they have complete control. This is how they live.

There are several of my friends that have escaped similar circumstances. One was almost murdered by her husband before she escaped. This is a terrible problem in our society and as long as we have people that consider other people less than human it will continue.

Lest you think that it is only women that are abused in this manner many men are also victims. They are afraid to speak out because in our society they are the object of fun that they cannot stand up to a woman. A deranged, jealous partner is the same male or female and must be feared.

Psychopaths and narcissistic sociopaths live among us. The more I am on Word Press the more I see of this. Facebook is riddled with those that take advantage of others whether using them to attack others or scam money out of them. Be aware of the signs and put distance between yourself and them.  If you are in a relationship with another person and they try to isolate you, denigrate you GET OUT. People who love and respect others do not isolate, denigrate or manipulate them. Stay safe my friends.

Women’s rights get out and vote !!!!! We owe it to those that fought to give us this right and those that will go after us.

Our right to vote is thanks to the 19th Amendment signed in 1920 but other women had to wait much longer.

In 1948 voting rights for women were introduced into international law by the United Nations Human Rights Commission. It was led by the elected chair Eleanor Roosevelt. It was adopted by the United nations as the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights;

Article 21 stated: “(1) Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives. (3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.”

The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Political Rights of Women, which went into force in 1954, enshrining the equal rights of women to vote, hold office, and access public services as set out by national laws. One of the most recent jurisdictions to acknowledge women’s full right to vote was Bhutan in 2008 (its first national elections).

Our right to vote is less than 100 years old yet some choose to ignore it. Don’t disappoint those that went before and suffered to give us this right. Many complain that there isn’t equal pay for equal work. Look at our representatives most are men ever wonder why??

Teach your daughters and any other girls in your life the real importance of voting. Know someone coming of age to vote take them with you. Got a daughter take her in the booth with you. If we do nothing we do not get ahead.

Frankly this year I did think about it. Not crazy about the candidates or their platforms. Like many I am disappointed that our government hasn’t done some of the things I think they should. The economy is limping along because of some of the laws passed as well but if I don’t vote I am rubber stamping their actions.

So off I will go Tuesday to cast my ballot. They will know that I count, that I am not someone that just lets whatever people in office do slide.

If you are a male reading this sit your daughters down discuss this with them. Remember the world we create is the world our children inherit. Our rights can be taken away if we are not vigilant.

We live in a free society where women can do almost anything. Not all women are free. Remember that on Tuesday
