I just saw a wonderful post by a friend of mine on Facebook (I love my friends they teach me so much!). It was about this wonderful artist that happens to be Autistic. I think this painting says so much if we just ponder it a bit. The bloom strikes me very much like an eye peeping out at the world. I think maybe that is their world. Many of these children are wonderfully artistic and intelligent they just have problems connecting with the outside world.
Autism manifests itself early in life and there is a lot of evidence pointing to synaptic pathways that are disrupted. Many of the same things that cause other birth defects have been linked as well. It appears that the risk seems to be during the first eight weeks from conception. Although it is possible that it could be initiated later in development current research seems to indicate it earlier.
There has been no confirmed environmental causes vaccines have been disproven as causing autism and tragically some people who refuse the vaccines have had children with preventable diseases. Parents may have first become aware of the symptoms about the same age as the routine vaccines so this may have given arise to this conjecture. A theory supported by a litigation funded study has been found to be an elaborate fraud. This has resulted in some tragic results including the preventable deaths of several children.
Highly functioning autistics have signs and symptoms that are less severe than with other forms. They usually have average or above average intelligence. It is related to Asperger’s syndrome. Both of these can have language difficulties but be able to express themselves very well in other ways.
Unlike other people with autism these individuals want to be involved with others they just don’t have to skills to go about it. They may not be able to understand others emotions or be able to read facial expressions and other’s body language. That can make them the victims of bullying and can lead to them becoming victims of others and also anxiety and depression.
This beautiful child has found a wonderful way of expressing herself. With patience many of these wonderful people can add so much to all of our lives.
We all have our own little quirks but can usually work within society without a problem. There are some though that have extreme personality disorders. Seems that Narcissism has been the theme of late so I decided to look into the differences between Narcissists, Sociopaths and Borderline Personality Disorder and discovered some interesting things.
Narcissists and Sociopaths both are people with extreme personalities.
The word comes from the myth of Narcissus a Greek youth who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water and turned into a flower.
self involved, vain and selfish
problems in sustaining relationships
lack of empathy
hypersensitivity to perceived insults even where they don’t exist
detests non admires
bragging and exaggeration ones own achievements
claiming expertise in many things
denial of gratitude
lack of respect
A certain amount of narcissism can be a good thing but when it is excessive it becomes a mental disorder classified as NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER.
A narcissist is not always a sociopath but a sociopath is always a narcissist.
A sociopath is one suffering from an antisocial personality disorder
A narcissist is not always a social threat but a sociopath is most of the time.
Sociopaths are usually charming people the most interesting thing about a Narcissist and a Sociopath to my mind is that they cannot feel the same way that a “normal” person will. There is not empathy or sympathy they simply cannot feel either. Since they cannot feel they usually have little or no guilt about their actions. They also have a high threshold for excitement and will do more and more extreme things so that they can feel anything.
Borderline Personality Disorder
This is the most serious of the disorders and can be confused with Narcissism and Sociopathy
Desperate attempts to prevent abandonment
Unstable relationships with others seeing them as flawless and then as worthless
Highly unstable self image
Self destructive behavior such as reckless driving or drug and alcohol abuse
Suicidal thoughts or behaviors or threats
Emotional states that fluctuate from a few hours to a few days
Feelings of emptiness
Inappropriate intense anger or trouble controlling anger
Episodes of paranoia or dissaciation
I hope this clears up the differences between these disorders. If you find yourself in a relationship with someone that has these symptoms then get help. If the person won’t get help then you probably should stay away as these disorders tend to get worse in time and with the use of self medication.
Ah yes the sin of Greed. A life spent gaining things that eventually will be thrown away, broken, burned up or otherwise disposed of. People that are made close only because they feed your need to be all important. Others to be used and discarded in favor of those that can further your path. How much is too much? When we are on our death bed will we think about the cars we owned? The big houses? The clothes, jewels, shoes?? Or will we think of those connections we made on this earth? Friends, lovers, children, random people that we enjoyed being around. Will we have regrets about how we have used those that had nothing but love for us but were of no use to move ahead. You are ahead at the end of your journey. Look back how many broken promises and hearts litter your life path?
What will our regrets be? That we never got that Rolex or BMW? Or that we didn’t spend time watching children grow or just breathing in the world. Looking at flowers and trees, listening to the ocean. While sitting in an office plotting we missed the world as it turned. We missed the important things that make us human and really fulfill us.
Is it that important the position we have in life? Does it really matter that maybe we work a few less hours or take advantage of fewer people? I think it does. One day you wake up and it is done and over we have an expiration date on all of us. Some sooner than others. Do I have regrets? Of course I do but I can truly say taking advantage of friends or others that cared about me isn’t among them. I regret the missed opportunities to do more good in this world. So as I approach the last chapter of my life I am trying to make it a real contribution not a detriment to my time on this planet.
Our legacy lives in what we added to this Earth. Perhaps a work of art or poetry. It can just be that we were kind to others and made their lives a little better taught a child a life lesson. Became a mentor to a troubled person. Helped an old person when they were too feeble to help themselves. Maybe we saved an animal or too from certain death by just donating time or money to a shelter. Helped someone do better in life by helping them learn to read. Got involved in an organization that helped fund research into diseases that killed others.
In the countries where we are lucky enough to have food, water and medical care we waste those blessings. Clean water in many places is a wonder. Not starving only a dream. Take a moment when you run that water to brush your teeth or water a lawn or when you throw out the rest of the meal because you made too much to think of those that do not have.
Greed is the thief of time. Greed isn’t just with a wealthy. We are all guilty of it at one time or other but while we go about obtaining things we are robbed of the time that could enrich our souls.
Bless you all I hope that if you read this post it makes you want to get involved in something that you can do to make this planet a better place.
