Leggo girls

Why would a toy aimed at 6 – 12 year old girls be aimed at beauty advice and what girls should look like? Don’t they get enough stereotypes in the movies, tv, internet and everywhere else? I found this article on my Facebook newsfeed. It really is appalling. Funny the boy Legos don’t give brawn advice. Why a separate Legos for girls? They don’t want to build buildings and machines? Only their faces?? What next? Botox Barbie?? To my mind there is just too much emphasis on girls and looks. Why is a 6 – 12 year old girl being targeted? I see this on a lot more than this toy. It just seems to be a trend to sexify young girls as early as possible. I hope parents really think about the toys they buy their girls. It is fine to buy a doll or a “girl” toy if she wants it but buy a microscope or a building set at the same time. Better still get them a book they may go for the novelty. Also I think a parent buying young girls makeup or other adult stuff for preadolescent girls is really ill advised. Let your young girls be just that. Kids need to be kids to learn their way in the world. They will be categorized soon enough in the work place.

Right now women have to work long days and take care of the home and children. It is not easy. If they are going to have a decent life with opportunities to do what makes them happy they need all avenues open to them. Girls and boys don’t need to be put in little boxes and told what they are. They will figure it out. If we send the message that you have to be a certain way, act a certain way, look a certain way what child will blossom and be what they are meant to be. Not little rubber stamps but individuals. Boys have to have those opportunities too. Many men have chosen to raise their children instead of their wives. Not everyone is created to be a care giver. Some men really enjoy raising their children and being home with them. So if the boy wants to learn to cook or baby sit or even sew get over your prejudices and don’t hold them back.

Your child and all children are one of a kind never to be again. We all deserve for them to be happy and the best they can be.

Autism and the Artist Candy Waters

I just saw a wonderful post by a friend of mine on Facebook (I love my friends they teach me so much!). It was about this wonderful artist that happens to be Autistic. I think this painting says so much if we just ponder it a bit. The bloom strikes me very much like an eye peeping out at the world. I think maybe that is their world. Many of these children are wonderfully artistic and intelligent they just have problems connecting with the outside world.

Autism manifests itself early in life and there is a lot of evidence pointing to synaptic pathways that are disrupted. Many of the same things that cause other birth defects have been linked as well. It appears that the risk seems to be during the first eight weeks from conception. Although it is possible that it could be initiated later in development current research seems to indicate it earlier.

There has been no confirmed environmental causes vaccines have been disproven as causing autism and tragically some people who refuse the vaccines have had children with preventable diseases. Parents may have first become aware of the symptoms about the same age as the routine vaccines so this may have given arise to this conjecture. A theory supported by a litigation funded study has been found to be an elaborate fraud. This has resulted in some tragic results including the preventable deaths of several children.

Highly functioning autistics have signs and symptoms that are less severe than with other forms. They usually have average or above average intelligence. It is related to Asperger’s syndrome. Both of these can have language difficulties but be able to express themselves very well in other ways.

Unlike other people with autism these individuals want to be involved with others they just don’t have to skills to go about it. They may not be able to understand others emotions or be able to read facial expressions and other’s body language. That can make them the victims of bullying and can lead to them becoming victims of others and also anxiety and depression.

This beautiful child has found a wonderful way of expressing herself. With patience many of these wonderful people can add so much to all of our lives.

Seven deadly sins – Greed, Lust, Gluttony, Pride, Sloth, Wrath and Envy

7DeadlySins
Occurred to me that the things I have been posting are really about all of these.

Greed – Mine all mine all about me. Let me take what I want whether or not it is mine. Never satisfied with what they have.

Lust – Sexting, cheating, perverted love just for the sake of sex and power. Make no mistake they do go hand and hand skipping down the road to ruin together.

Gluttony – More and more and more. All we can get while half the world starves we throw out food and waste that which would save some from starving to death.

Pride – Seeing no one elses point of view. Always right never wrong even when it costs you friends, family and relationships. Who cares if everyone rejects you? You still have your pride.

Sloth – Doing the minimum at a job you are paid to do. Cheating on time. Not using your potential. This we are all guilty of.

Wrath – Uncontrollable anger locking you into situations that it is very hard to extricate yourself from. Saying things that once out wound and can never be recalled.

Envy – Not being satisfied with what you have. Always wanting what someone else has but you are too lazy to go and get it yourself. The most useless of sins.

In the coming weeks I will look further into these and see are they still relevant to today’s world?? Don’t we need some of them just to survive in a dog eat dog modern environment or is it that we use that as an excuse. Without the church or other positive influence what becomes of a child surrounded by these actions?

Thanks for reading and as always I really would like your thoughts and ideas of these things that rattle around in Galesmind.
