Instead of attacking gun owners why don’t we do something about the cause of most of gun violence. The sad lack of mental health care in the United States is tragic. It is extremely difficult for the middle class or lower class people to get quality care. Why don’t we put some of the money that is being used to fight legitimate gun owners into upgrading the mental health care system. It is about time that mental disease is treated like a disease, not something that only the wealthy in this country can have access to. Many of the poor walk the streets because they have lost everything to mental illness. Inability to work out of touch with reality they live a terrifying existence. Alienation of the mentally ill in our society has created an underworld that few even notice. If we are indeed an advanced society then we need to rethink our attitudes about the care of these people. A lot of them won’t go into shelters because they are dirty dangerous places. Put some funds into upgrading them into places the homeless want to go to and offer quality mental health care. In the end, it will make our country not only safer but it will save money in the long run on the care of the poor. People with good mental health care and safe living conditions can get work and add to society. It is better in the long run for both the individual and the country. Along with this, people that will commit gun violence because of their mental conditions will have help. Perhaps we need to stop treating the mentally ill like they don’t exist.

Attacking gun owners Mr. Obama and crew is just camouflage for a real problem in this country in my opinion. Obamacare is also making it more difficult for people to get help. Why is it that mental health care is oftentimes not covered by insurance? It is a disease like any other. While I agree there has to be some control over gun ownership we already have strict licensing by both the state and local authorities. We do not need to have this basic American right taken away by those that cannot see the real cause or are bought out by the health insurance industries and the anti-gun lobby. Do not be fooled check into this yourself and vote accordingly. As long as there are untreated mentally ill people that cannot get help gun violence is not going to stop. Legislate the illegal use of guns, make penalties for the use of a gun in the commission of a crime much harsher but do not use this as an excuse to unarm the populace.

I agree that we should be finding out why there’s such a propensity for people to settle disputes with violence as their first choice. Mental health funding, like many other things, has been used as a political football. In my home state’s case, it was used for political vindictiveness, by a former governor. He closed mental health facilities to get back at Democratic opposition. His name should be familiar, he’s imprisoned for a CDL license for bribes scandal.

Mental health seems to be something that people just don’t support. It is really stupid everyone in this country should demand that it is addressed instead of grandstanding about guns and other issues. The root cause of violence and suicide needs to be addressed not the method of its final use.
